The story of the financier

The name of the famous “financier” cake comes from a pastry chef named Lasne, who had a shop near the stock exchange. Most of his customers were financiers.

They wanted small treats that could be eaten quickly without dirtying their hands. Lasne decided to change the shape and name of the pastry to resemble a gold bar, evoking the world of financiers.
