Cleaning a silicone mould

Cleaning a silicone mould

If your silicone mould is not washed carefully enough, it can be damaged very quickly.

This is why it is important to focus on the issue of cleaning these mussels. The most common way is to put them in the dishwasher, but the behaviours to adopt vary according to the situations encountered.

  • Bold

The most effective technique for dealing with guy tracks is to adopt the traditional way, which is hand washing with dishwashing liquid and elbow grease.

But you can also use the dishwasher, which, with its steam and soap, removes all traces of grease.

Caution: if the mould is not properly cleaned, an accumulation of fat may appear: white residue. These residues are not a sign of wear and tear, but a lack of conscientiousness in terms of maintenance. To remedy these white stains, fill your mould with water and put it in the freezer. Once the ice cube has formed, you can remove it from the mould, with which any greasy residue will be removed!

  • Tasks

There are 2 methods to clean a stained silicone mould: the vinegar way and the baking soda way.

Vinegar way: put white vinegar in your silicone mould, to which you add boiling water. After 1 hour of soaking, soak in clear water and then rinse.

Baking soda: Apply baking soda to your silicone mould and mix it with hot water, then after rinsing thoroughly, soap the mould with clear water and rinse.

  • Burn

To clean a silicone mould with burn marks, you can use the “vinegar-like” method, similar to the one suggested for stains.

So you need to mix white vinegar with very hot water for 1 hour, then soap with clear water and rinse.

  • To avoid

It is highly inadvisable to use abrasive sponges to clean your silicone moulds. Indeed, they can leave micro-scratches, and thus permanently damage your mould.

In addition, for a more effective conservation, you should not wipe your mussels after washing them. It would be better to let them dry, or better yet, place them in the oven at 100°C for 2 minutes, which allows them to be sterilized.

Therefore, to properly care for your silicone moulds, it is necessary to clean them daily with soapy water or in the dishwasher. It is also important to follow the instructions for use of each mould. The more meticulous your cleaning is, the longer your moulds will stay like new!

I have a Silmaé mould, how do I clean it?

Maé silicone moulds have the advantage of being easy to clean.

  • Soak the plates in a very hot water bath with a degreaser if necessary, at +80°C for at least 30 minutes, then put them through a washing tunnel to remove all deposits. After cleaning, the plates keep the same touch as a new plate.
  • The frequency of cleaning depends on the moulded products. Do not store greasy plates
  • Wash the plates regularly, as grease build-up is detrimental to the longevity of the material.
